We typically give ourselves 3 months to completely develop a basement from start to finish including all of the permits and inspections
MBL construction will acquire any permits and inspections required in your municipality on your behalf
For a bedroom to be legal it must have an egress window in case of a fire. And it has to have an interlocked fire alarm
Obviously proper insulation and a vapour barrier are extremely important in keeping your basement warm. A two pound spray foam can also be used to insulate and it will increase the insulation value compared to the standard. Carpet also helps keep the area warmer as it helps provide an insulating layer between the concrete floor and the room. Extra heat runs can also be ran off the furnace if it’s of great concern.
We recommend both carpet and luxury vinyl plank for basements. Of course carpet is the warmer of the two, so living spaces and rooms will almost always be carpet while having areas like the bathroom and kitchenette (if applicable) as vinyl plank. We don’t recommend an engineered hardwood floor or regular hardwood floor because the concrete floor of a basement is often inconsistent
